Ken McCool
Meet the Candidate

A Matthews neighbor who keeps his word.

Lifelong Matthews resident, family small-business owner, and former Mayor Pro Tem, running to be District 105's honest, local voice.

Ken McCool has spent his whole life in Matthews. He runs the family small business, Ken's Sports Cards & Collectibles, and he's spent years serving the town he grew up in.

Ken was appointed to the Matthews Board of Commissioners in 2020, becoming one of the youngest local officials in North Carolina, then earned the voters' trust in his own right, winning election in 2021 and again in 2023 and rising to Mayor Pro Tem. He served on the board through the end of 2025.

"I'm not a politician looking for the next office. I'm a neighbor who shows up and keeps his word."

His record is a record of delivery, not promises. Ken helped secure $1.5 million in federal funds for affordable housing, delivered the largest parks investment Matthews has seen in 15 years, and helped recruit an advanced-manufacturing campus that brings good-paying jobs to the region.

When Matthews was promised light rail and then cut out of the county's transit plan, Ken fought for the town's fair share, because a local champion should be able to deliver the single biggest thing his own town was promised.

Now Ken is running for the North Carolina House in District 105, a true coin-flip seat that Kamala Harris carried, to give this district an honest, local voice in Raleigh, bring down the cost of living, and protect the governor's veto.
